Delicate
SOTA Year 3 Visual Arts students present their work that celebrates the delicate artistic process at 8Q-sam Gallery 1.11. On 30 April 2009, SOTA with 8Q-sam – Singapore Art Museum’s new contemporary art space, inaugurated Gallery 1.11, 8Q-sam student-centred gallery and programming series. This included a 6-month collaboration featuring works by SOTA Visual Arts Faculty and Year 3 Visual Arts students in a series of exhibitions, open studios, gallery tours, and talks/workshops by SOTA artists-teachers. Delicate is the closing exhibition for this collaboration.
About the exhibition
The art-making process is delicate – informed by artistic impulse, purposeful research and intense self-critique. It is neither an exact science nor an art, neither guided by charts or sparked by bouts of inspiration. Art-making is, in fact, the allowing of opposites to co-exist – experience with instinct, careful consideration with risk-taking, self-assurance with critique. The artworks in this exhibition celebrate these necessary, purposeful and turbulent aspects of artistic process.
