SOTA students express themselves with new Olympus PEN E-P1 camera
Through a unique collaboration between SOTA and Olympus, SOTA Year 3 Visual Arts students Shawna Chia, Janel Ang and Chong Lii were privileged to be the first in Singapore to try out the new Olympus PEN E-P1 camera, a compact, lightweight, interchangeable lens camera with special features that allows the user to take SLR quality photos.
The students were loaned the cameras and given 24 hours to take pictures of anything they wanted islandwide. Their best photos were presented at the launch and press conference of the Olympus Pen E-P1 on 18 June 2009. At the event, the students also explained how they used the camera’s unique features to achieve the desired effects of their photos.
In being given the opportunity to express themselves and utilise the latest and best in current technology to put their idea across, this project has offered the students a real world authentic learning experience. In giving their comments and feedback on the camera, they have learnt how to articulate clearly and confidently their thoughts and opinions. The project gave students the platform to engage the community and work with industry professionals with the view that the emergent creative economy will require such diverse talents who can apply broad based knowledge and have the ability to make connections between previously discrete disciplines and subject areas. SOTA is delighted that Olympus has chosen to partner with us to launch their new camera.
