The Fish Tree

The Fish Tree

The Fish Tree, an art installation sponsored by National Heritage Board (NHB) was featured at SOTA’s West Plaza facade from 26 August 2011 to 4 September 2011. As part of the Night Festival organised by NHB, SOTA is pleased to be a venue sponsor where the visual art installation is created and designed by renowned French artist, Bibi. The installation is essentially influenced by the sculptures of ancient Egypt, Nicky de Saint Phalle, J. Bosh, Keith Haring, paleontology and free diving.

Fishes are made from recycled plastic objects such as big tubs, basins, cans and traffic cones. The marriage of fishes with the tree is an intrusion of the wilderness in the heart of the city. The installation plays with the multiple perspectives of the SOTA’s building and light is used as the medium. The SOTA facade becomes a theater stage where the middle big angsana tree gains a new beguiling power with big fruits that are in the form of flying fish shoals.

Two shoals of lighting fishes will occupy our SOTA facade. The first is comprises 20 big fishes, which will go along the facade with lighting projections. Each fish will project changing lighting colors. The second smaller fish shoal takes place in the central tree of the facade where these fishes act as a swarm of twinkling squawking birds.
