An experienced and innovative educator, Suriyani Bte Rahamat obtained her Master of Education (Science) and a Bachelor’s degree in Science (majoring in Biology and Chemistry) from the Nanyang Technological University (NTU). She attained her Diplomas in Education and Departmental Management from the National Institute of Education. During her undergraduate years, she was awarded the prestigious Economic Development Board Book prize for Biology for excelling in the subject. As the most outstanding graduate in NTU’s Master of Education programme, Suriyani was also awarded the Singapore Teachers Union Gold Medal for the Year 2007.

Prior to joining SOTA, Suriyani was head of the Science Department at Kranji Secondary School. She was nominated and selected to participate in the Ministry of Education (MOE) Overseas Life Science Attachment at University of Washington, Seattle, and returned to contribute to MOE’s Life Science Resource Package for secondary schools and junior colleges. Suriyani has also undergone training for Understanding by Design in New Jersey, USA, and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme in Australia and Singapore.

An exceptional leader, Suriyani has led teams as an I-Advocate in MOE Innovation Projects. In 2006, she helmed a team project which achieved the silver award at the MOE-Innergy Award.
