
Audra Amir Liow received her Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from the National University of Singapore. She went on to attain a Postgraduate Diploma in Education, achieving a distinction, from the National Institute of Education. She also holds a Specialist Diploma in Educational Assessment from the Singapore Examination and Assessment Board.
Prior to joining SOTA, Audra taught English Language and Literature in several secondary schools such as Temasek Secondary School and Cedar Girls’ Secondary School. She was a Head of Department (HOD) of English Language and Literature from 1998 to 2008. She joined the Ministry of Education (HQ) as a Curriculum Planning Officer (CPO) in the Curriculum Planning and Development Division from 2000 – 2002. As a HOD, CPO and teacher, she was extensively involved in curriculum review, development of teaching materials and training of new teachers.
Audra was inspired to be a teacher by her Literature teachers while in school. She hopes to show her students how Literature is a study of human behavior and a reflection of society as well as to arouse a love for the written word. Thus, she aspires to enthuse her students to love and critically appreciate the subject. Audra is particularly interested in local literary works and how media influences the creation of Literature.
