Oei Giok Liong obtained her Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree in Chinese Language and Literature from National Taiwan University and her Diploma in Education from the National Institute of Education.
Prior to joining SOTA, Giok Liong was a senior teacher at St. Andrew's Secondary School and Nanyang Girls' High School. She also served as subject head of Chinese Language at Raffles Institution’s Gifted Education Department.
Amongst her many interests, Giok Liong's passion lies with the language arts. Her love for languages spurred her on to take up a one-year Japanese Language course at the Japanese Language Institution in Sapporo, Japan. Giok Liong believes that her experience in learning a foreign language would further enhance her teaching of the Chinese Language.
Giok Liong has been a teacher cum mentor to many of her students. She was awarded the prestigious Inspiring Chinese Teacher Award in 1998.
