Cheryl Lim is currently in the Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) program at the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University, US, majoring in flute performance. She received her Masters degree from the Manhattan School of Music, US and her Bachelors degree with 1st class Honours from the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music at National University of Singapore. Her principal teachers include Marina Piccinini, Michael Parloff and Jin Ta.
A seasoned performer in solo, chamber as well as orchestral settings, Cheryl has recently won prizes in flute, including 2nd prize at the 2011 Central Ohio Flute Association Young Artist Competition and 2nd prize at the 2010 Alexander and Buono International Flute Competition. As an orchestral musician, she has performed as principal flute of the Singapore Festival Orchestra, Orchestra of the Music Makers (OMM), Singapore Lyric Opera and the Singapore National Youth Orchestra (SNYO). She has also performed as soloist with the OMM as well as the SNYO, and has freelanced in the Singapore Symphony. Her passion for chamber music has also led her to participate in performances of a wide variety of instrumentation and genres, with music that spans the last 300 years.
Equally enthusiastic about performance as well as music education, Cheryl has always aspired to share her musical knowledge and experiences with others. She has taught at public schools both in Singapore as well in New York City, and has taken part as a host, teacher, performer and piano accompanist in numerous musical outreach programs for schools and hospitals. She hopes to continue expanding her range of contributions to the community-at-large.
