Rona Tan believes in compassion, empathy and warmth as core values in counselling. She enjoys working with youth and families. Rona attained her Masters of Social Science (Counselling and Psychotherapy) from Edith Cowan University, Western Australia and her Bachelor of Arts (English Literature and Sociology) from the National University of Singapore. She attained her Postgraduate Diploma in Education (Secondary) specialising in the teaching of English Language and Literature from the National Institute of Education.
After teaching in a local secondary school, Rona obtained her Specialist Diploma in Counselling and Guidance from Temasek Polytechnic in 1999, obtaining distinctions for her course of study. She has also received postgraduate training in Family Therapy, obtaining a Diploma in Satir Systemic Brief Therapy with the Satir Institute of the Pacific (British Columbia, Canada) in 2003.
Rona has received Certification in Reality Therapy from the William Glasser Institute of America. She is a Certified Behavioural and Career Consultant in the DISC Personality Profiling System. Rona is trained in Strengths Quest as well as the Taylor Johnson Temperament Analysis. In 2008, she obtained a Certificate in Special Learning Needs from the National Institute of Education.
Prior to joining SOTA, Rona worked at Raffles Girls School (Secondary). As a counsellor with the Singapore Prison Service, Rona served as Team Leader at Kaki Bukit Centre and was awarded the Director’s Testimonial Award and Team Commendation Award for pioneering family related programmes.
Rona has also delivered workshops for the Young Presidents’ Organisation (Singapore) and lectured in Temasek and Nanyang Polytechnics.
