Scholarships are open to all SOTA students who demonstrate outstanding artistic talents and excellent academic standing. Highly competitive, these scholarships are aimed at recognising students' contribution to SOTA in their talents as well as their performance in the academic disciplines.
Students may apply for the scholarship either in Year 1 or Year 4 only. The Scholarships are tenable from Years 1 to 3 and Year 4 to 6, with the exception of SOTA's Secondary 2 cohort in 2008, where the scholarships are tenable for Years 2 and 3.
As a scholar in SOTA, students are expected to demonstrate consistent artistic progress, meet SOTA's yearly promotion criteria and maintain good disciplinary standing . They are also expected to demonstrate leadership and active participation in school programmes.
The criteria for scholarship are:
- Outstanding performance in the student's chosen art discipline
- Participation and/or achievements in national arts competitions (e.g. Singapore Youth Festival Competitions, National Music Competitions) and international arts competitions, performances and exhibitions.
- Excellent academic record
Upon reaching Year 4:-
Applicants are expected to meet the following prerequisites:-
- Outstanding performance in the chosen arts discipline;
- Participation and achievements in national arts competitions (e.g. Singapore Youth Festival Competitions, National Music Competitions) and international arts competitions, performances and exhibitions;
- Excellent academic record;
- Participation and demonstration of leadership qualities in programmes that benefit the school and wider community (e.g. SOTA Arts Festival, SOTA Community Outreach Programmes) and
- Strong recommendation from SOTA's Faculty Tutors.
The scholarship covers the school fees payable by Singapore Citizens, taking into consideration any MOE Edusave Scholarship awarded. A book / materials allowance is also awarded annually with the scholarship.
