1 How do I apply to SOTA?
The primary criteria for admission to SOTA is artistic talent.
Students who wish to study at SOTA must attend the Talent Academy (TA) when admission is by competitive audition at the TA.
The TA is a selection platform which includes live auditions, personal interviews and portfolio reviews with a panel of highly regarded and experienced educators and arts specialists, from SOTA faculty as well as resource persons from Singapore and overseas.
During the audition a student's potential is taken into account as well as his or her talent.
The TA is usually held during the March and June school holidays and is open to all Primary 6 students.
Students may audition in the following art forms at the TA:
- Dance (Ballet or Non-Ballet)
- Music (Instrumental or Voice)
- Theatre
- Visual Arts
All applicants are also required to undergo a creative writing segment at the TA.
Foreign students and returning Singaporeans are required to sit for English and Mathematics entrance tests, in addition to attending the TA.

2 How do I submit the supporting documents and payment to SOTA?
Parents/guardians may submit in person or mail the supporting documents to:

SOTA's opening hours:
Monday to Friday
8:30am to 1:00pm; and
2:00pm to 6:00pm
Supporting documents are:
- Photocopy of birth certificate/passport
- School results such as Primary 5, Primary 6, Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE), etc., where applicable
- Recommendation letter, where relevant
- Passport size photograph
- Full-length body photograph with appropriate dance attire for Dance applicants
- Any other achievements and awards, where relevant
- A cheque payment of S$150, made payable to "SOTA". Registration fee is non-refundable.
- For permanent residents, a photocopy of re-entry permit displaying the validity date

3 How are students selected for admission to SOTA?
The primary criteria for admission to SOTA is artistic talent demonstrated at the TA where students will have to undergo live auditions, personal interviews and portfolio reviews with a panel of highly regarded and experienced educators and arts specialists, from SOTA faculty as well as resource persons from Singapore and overseas.
Each successful participant would have been recommended for admission to SOTA by the panel of specialists.
Students who have participated in the TA will be notified by post about their admission status at the end of July 2008. Successful participants will be granted provisional offers of admission.
The confirmed offers of admission to SOTA are given only upon the release of the participant's Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) results. Successful participants will receive the Ministry of Education (MOE) Direct School Admission (DSA) posting letter.

4 Can foreign students apply to SOTA? Is there a quota for admission?
Foreign students may apply for admission to SOTA but the number is kept to not more than 20% of the total cohort. These students will pay foreign student fees.

Applications for SOTA scholarships and bursaries for students of SOTA's 2008 cohort will be available from September 2007 onwards.

7 What is Direct School Admission (DSA)?
SOTA offers 100% of its places under the DSA. Admission to SOTA is based strictly on auditions and participation in the TA.
