Peter graduated from the Intercultural Theatre Institute (Singapore) with a Professional Diploma in Intercultural Theatre (Acting) and holds a Master of Arts in Advanced Theatre Practice from The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, University of London. Under the direct tutelage of the late Kuo Pao Kun, Peter’s training in contemporary theatre approaches and many important Asian traditional art forms (Beijing Opera, Noh, Wayang Wong and Bharata Natyam) not only equipped him with performance techniques, but also analytical viewpoints and rich cultural landscapes that enhance his ability to work cross-culturally with Singaporean and international artists. He is also trained in a range of theatre training approaches including Viewpoints, Suzuki and other psycho-physical methods.
As a theatre practitioner, he has produced, directed, written and performed. As a performer, he has earned multiple nominations and awards in the Life! Theatre Awards including ‘Best Ensemble’ (2003, 2007, 2012), ‘Best Actor’ (2015) and ‘Production of the Year’ (2007). Internationally, Peter has represented Singapore in overseas festival performances in Malaysia, Indonesia, Macau, Hong Kong, Taiwan, China, Japan, India, Hungary and Romania. In 2011, he received the national accolade, Young Artist Award, from the National Arts Council.
At SOTA, Peter teaches performance skills, Devised Theatre and Asian classical theatre, and with his professional experience, is preparing students in the International Baccalaureate Career-related Programme (IBCP) for further training and professional development so as to pursue theatre as a career in the future.
