Ngiam Jing Zhi graduated from National University of Singapore (NUS) with an honours degree in Geography and completed his Postgraduate Diploma in Education with the National Institute of Education (NIE). While at NUS, he was an active member of the Geographical Society and in Model United Nations conferences.
Jing Zhi was at Yishun Junior College (YJC) for three years, where he taught Geography and was one of the teachers-in-charge of the Students’ Council. He spent another three years at the Ministry of Education Headquarters after that, before joining SOTA.
Jing Zhi believes fieldwork is an integral part of learning and appreciating geography. As a student, he spent six weeks in Thailand as part of a field studies module. As a teacher, he brought students on Humanities learning journeys to Vietnam, for which he developed the geography components, and on fieldwork trips to Malaysia. He believes that the Humanities are important not only for learning about the world around us, but also about how we could be living in it.
