Joel Chung graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree (First Class Honours in Chemistry) from the National University of Singapore and attained a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (Specialisation in teaching at Junior College Level) with Credit from the National Institute of Education, Singapore.


Prior to joining SOTA, Joel taught in post-secondary institutions as various as polytechnics and junior colleges for more than ten years. During this time, he was given opportunities to explore and implement pedagogies such as problem-based learning in his classroom. Through the years, he has been actively involved in the preparation of instructional packages to meet the learning needs of students. He has also served as the Teacher Advisor to co-curricular activities such as Guitar Ensemble and Wushu, mentoring students of diverse backgrounds. As a firm believer of lifelong learning, Joel constantly seeks to improve his teaching practice. Joining SOTA presents him with an excellent opportunity to be in touch with the unique integrated arts and academic curriculum underlying the International Baccalaureate Programme.


Joel is also an avid collector of films, art books and graphic novels. He generally enjoys the works of Tsui Hark, Wes Anderson and Chen Uen.
