New works by Theatre alumna Sabrina Dzulkifli

"Counting", the play by Theatre alumna Sabrina Dzulkifli will be staged at Woodlands Regional Library Auditorium on 19 and 20 February 2016. Sabrina wrote the play during her Woodlands Library Playwriting Residency in 2015, mentored by playwright Joel Tan.

The play tells the story of two Malay women who used to be best friends. They meet each other one day, several years after their friendship falls apart and decide to spend an afternoon together reminiscing. As the play unfolds, the two friends recount their friendship from their own perspectives and a complex story of the expectations of community, family and society develops.

Sabrina also co-wrote BI(CARA), a production by Pink Gajah Theatre featuring Sharda Harrison which was recently staged at the M1 Singapore Fringe Festival. The production touched on Sharda’s memories growing up as a daughter of famous animal conservationist Bernard Harrison and the play was inspired by a talk he gave, Why Do We Do What We Do. It also portrayed man’s love-hate relationship with animals and with his own kind.
