20/20 – The Temasek Short Film Project

Project 20/20 was a commissioned film series sponsored by Temasek Holdings (Private) Limited. It featured 20 short films made by 20 groups of young filmmakers from various institutions, including LASALLE College of the Arts, Nanyang Technological University, and Ngee Ann Polytechnic.

The team, made up of SOTA alumni Raphael Yee, Amanda Liaw, Young Wei Ping and Klara Wyse, was one of the 20 selected teams. It was formed when Amanda, Wei Ping and Klara were introduced to the project by a teacher. The three girls were from the same film class, while Raphael was their junior who approached them as he wanted to create a film collaboratively.

Their film, When the Wind Blows, is a poignant reminder of people with mental health challenges in our midst, and how much they need our support. None of the team members had experienced mental conditions firsthand, but they understood that mental illness is a sensitive and complex topic. Hence, they took up the challenge of making a film on this topic, with the hope that their video will help create a better understanding of and empathy for persons with mental illness.

As a part of the project, the team had to manage the end-to-end production of film-making, including talent selection, script development, budget management, filming and post-production management. SOTA Theatre alumna Fiona Lim and Year 5 Theatre student Andre Chong were casted for the film.
