Congratulations to Koh Cheng Jin (Music, 2014) whose composition Before Daybreak《孤燈挑盡》 has been selected as the commissioned work for the 2021 edition of Singapore International Violin Competition (SIVC)! The Competition, which takes place from 17 - 29 January 2021, challenges participants' interpretive skills across a range of repertoire. Selected in SIVC’s first-ever open call for works, Cheng Jin's piece is infused with Chinese music elements, and will be performed by the semi-finalists. Read more about it HERE.

Earlier this year, Cheng Jin won The Juilliard School’s Palmer Dixon Prize for the top composition of the year! The winning piece, YAMA (God of Hell), is a fusion ensemble piece that was performed live by musicians, an artist and a dancer. It was extra special for Cheng Jin because she personally played the Yang Qin in her very own composition. Listen to YAMA HERE.

Since graduating from SOTA in 2014, Cheng Jin has attained a Bachelor of Music (Hons) in Composition from The Juilliard School and is currently pursuing a Masters in composition with Dr Robert Beaser. Read her experience as a student at The Juilliard School HERE.
