Two SOTA faculty members won the Young Artist Award

Two faculty members from SOTA, Visual artist Tan Wee Lit, 34 and film-maker Liao Jiekai, 28 received the Young Artist Award in a presentation ceremony at the Istana on 17 October 2012.

Wee Lit, Head, Visual Arts, staged his first solo exhibition in 2008 at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago in Chicago, Illinois, USA as part of the 12X12 New Artists/New Work exhibition. Locally, he has also participated in various local exhibitions and his works are in many private collections locally and overseas. His public works include Eroclamation (Haw Par Villa MRT) and All the Essentially Essential (Raffles Place).

Jiekai, Faculty of Media Education, made his first feature film Red Dragonflies which won the Special Jury Prize at Jeonju International Film Festival in 2010. Jiekai is a founding member of 13 Little Pictures, a Singapore based Filmmaker Collective and has made a number of short films including Clouds in a Shell (2008), The Inner City (2008) and Before the Wedlock House (2012), which were screened both locally and internationally.
