In this edition, Parveen topped the Pipa Youth Category. This is the Year 2 student's second time taking part in this competition. In 2016, she emerged as the first prize winner for the Pipa Junior Category. Having lived in China previously, Parveen chose to learn the Pipa as way of preserving the Chinese culture. It was a challenge to herself to learn the Chinese instrument with some of the most difficult techniques. The only Pipa player in SOTA at the moment, she fell in love with the instrument's unique sound and look at a young age.

Year 6 student Lisa Maria came in second in the Yangqin Youth Category. She picked up the Yangqin when she was in Primary 1, as a co-curricular activity (CCA). Eventually, she decided to pursue her love for the instrument and music at SOTA. Her love for music continues to grow and she enjoys learning new pieces and playing the Yangqin.
