Congratulations to Valerie Kang, who is the recipient of the Best Sportsgirl award for Taekwondo at this year's Singapore Schools Sports Council (SSSC) Colours Awards! The Year 3 Dance student started learning Taekwondo when she was in Primary One to gain self-defence skills and has since developed a passion for the martial art. Earlier this year, she joined the national team, and she is proud to have opportunities to represent Singapore in competitions overseas.

To the dancer, both her art form and Taekwondo are a mix of sports and arts, which require strength and flexibility. Valerie feels that her dance training has helped her to understand her body better and to work on targeted muscles which benefit her training in Taekwondo.
