SOTA's Dance and Music students had the opportunity to present Kinesphere: Triple Quintet for 9 Musicians and 6 Dancers at the Esplanade on 7 April! The collaborative performance stretched across the Esplanade Concourse, Festival Corner and Theatre Foyer and invited audience to participate by creatively reacting to the dancers' movements.

Kinesphereis inspired by Rudolf Laban, who defined it as “the sphere around the body whose periphery can be reached by easily extending limbs without stepping away from that place which is the point of support when standing on one foot”. This hemispherical space around our body shifts as soon as we shift our weight, following anatomical limitations and peculiarities of the different bodies involved. This work is an attempt to bridge a gap and to neutralise a dichotomy - to intersect shapes of sound and movement, allowing a momentum that flows within a common space and time, shared and negotiated among the performers.
