The Sunburst Fundraising Concert returned for the second time this year!

Organised by The Business Times and presented by CapitaLand Hope Foundation, the concert took place on 8 November at the SOTA Concert Hall. The concert raised $250,000 for its two beneficiaries: the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Singapore (MDAS) and the SOTA Student Assistance Fund (SAF). Speaker of Parliament Mr Tan Chuan-Jin was the Guest-of-Honour.

Aside from raising funds, the concert was also a celebration of talents of all abilities. The concert featured guest performers such as hearing-impaired pianist Dr Azariah Tan and wheelchair ballroom dance couple Andy Ang and Julie Chong. SOTA students and alumni also readily volunteered their time and efforts for the concert, giving variety to the concert programme, from the lively dance item Popinjay featuring an ensemble of Year 4 Dance students, to the heartwarming restaging of g(old) by Year 5 Theatre students, and touching musical performance by our Theatre students. We were happy to have alumnus Bennett Bay back to share his music with our audience. Dance alumni Chia Poh Hian and Ma Yueru were also back to showcase their fun and quirky original choreography, Just Another.

The concert also celebrated the year-long projects that SOTA and MDAS had been working together on, from revamping MDAS notice boards, to facilitating the MDAS COMPASS Overnight Camp, supporting the Live Above Carnival and engaging MDAS members in a printmaking workshop. SOTA's collaboration with MDAS provides our students the opportunity to learn from others with different experiences and perspectives, and apply their talents and their learning from school in service of the wider community.

Collaborations

Thank you to all our performers and volunteers who helped make the concert possible, and to all who came to support the concert!
