Singaporean students to stage dance at Edinburgh fringe festival

A group of Singaporean students, known as The Bhumi Collective, will be staging a dance production at this year's Edinburgh fringe festival. Made up of Singaporean theatre, dance and music makers who are currently based in the United Kingdom, The Bhumi Collective includes SOTA graduates Nicholas Tee (Class of 2012 - Theatre), Zunnur Zhafirah Binte Sazali (Class of 2013 - Dance), and Venetia Lim (Class of 2014 - Dance), who are currently pursuing their studies in the UK.

The dance production, titled bhumi, is a combination of Malay dance and music with contemporary elements. bhumi seeks to address the question of “What does it mean to be Melayu (Malay)?” in a rapidly changing cosmopolitan age where race, culture, religion, and nationality are becoming increasingly integrated and blurred.

bhumi will run for 12 shows at the Edinburgh fringe festival from 15-20 August 2016, and 22-27 August 2016.
