Denise Thong has a Master of Counselling, Master of Science in human nutrition, and a bachelor’s degree in Applied Science (Food Science and Technology). She is a Registered Counsellor and Clinical Member of the Singapore Association for Counselling (SAC number: C0771).
She started her journey in counselling as an intern at a psychiatric clinic, where she got acquainted with the two-pronged treatment (i.e. pharmacotherapy and counselling) of serious psychiatric disorders. Working closely with her patients, she came to understand that patients are more than just their diagnostic labels. Above all, they are dignified humans who inhabit many different roles in their lives.
In 2021, Denise set up her own private practice and saw clients with a diverse range of issues (i.e. from mild relationship issues to serious mental health issues). She also set up a solution-focused supervision group for private practitioners and school counsellors conducted by Mr Alan Yeo (Clinical Supervisor, SAC).
Her favourite counselling modalities are psychodrama, solution-focused brief therapy, and choice theory reality therapy.
Denise has always loved the arts. In her youth, she learned the ballet, piano, and guzheng. She was also part of Singapore’s national team for Taekwondo. Today, she cares for herself by reading, running and copying watercolour artwork from YouTube videos.
