Matthew Lyon was born in Sheffield in the UK and graduated with a first-class honours degree in Literature from the University of York. He came to Singapore in 1999 and has taught in Yishun Town Secondary School, Serangoon Junior College and Raffles Institution, where he set up and administered the A-Level Theatre Studies Programme as well as running the drama CCA, Raffles Players.

Matthew is Editor of The Flying Inkpot Theatre and Dance, Singapore’s premiere arts criticism website, and is on the judging panel of The Straits Times Life! Theatre Awards. He has conducted theatre criticism workshops for MOE and LASALLE College of the Arts, among others.

Matthew is also a playwright, having studied under Haresh Sharma in The Playwrights’ Cove programme, and briefly under David Henry Hwang. His plays have been staged by school and professional groups.
