Mariette Ong graduated from Nanyang Technological University (NTU) with a degree in Arts, majoring in Physical Education and History, and a Master of Education (Gifted Education). She is trained in IBDP Creativity, Activity, Service and IBCP Service Learning (SL) Core, and was involved in IBO’s IBCP SL Curriculum review and development.
Mariette started her teaching career in 1997 and has taught at secondary and tertiary institutions, assuming roles such as Year Head and Head of Department. She has led teams on overseas service learning projects, and swimming and lifesaving training programmes and competitions. Before joining SOTA, she taught at NTU Physical Education & Sports Science / Sports Science & Management (PESS/SSM) as Adjunct Lecturer/Consultant, and served as NIE Supervisor to PE Teacher Trainees.
Mariette sees every day as a learning opportunity in this dynamic world. She is active in the outdoors, aquatic and land sports – as a participant, coach, official or an examiner. She volunteers regularly with the Singapore Disability Sports Council, Singapore Swimming Association, Singapore Lifesaving Society, and is an Evaluator at the Future Problem Solving International Conference Community Problem Solving (CmPS) programme.
Mariette also believes that everyone is capable of putting aside their time to make a positive difference for the community and the living world.
