Aden Tan graduated from the National University of Singapore with a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Life Sciences. He then went on to the National Institute of Education and obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Education for the teaching of Biology at the Junior College and Secondary levels.
Aden began his teaching career at Anglo-Chinese Junior College for five years. With a strong conviction in inspiring students to pursue their interest in science through experiential learning, he actively coached students to plan and organise enrichment programmes and events for primary, secondary and pre-university students nationwide.
In 2015, he left the service to further his master’s studies in Hong Kong to explore current laboratory and industrial practices in the biotechnology field within the Chinese market. Aden returned to the teaching fraternity in Singapore where he started his journey of teaching IB Biology in Hwa Chong International School from 2018 to 2023. He contributed to the expansion of the school’s curriculum by pioneering the launch of Environmental Systems and Societies (ESS), an interdisciplinary IBDP course.
Aden enjoys travelling and visiting the arts and cultural scenes in various unique settings, especially collections of art installations and artefacts. He is also enthusiastic about discovering how wood such as sandalwood and agarwood are intricately linked to artistic uses in incense, perfumery, sculptures and carvings.
