Father Angel Time

Artist statement:

Father Angel Time was inspired by the intentionality of Renaissance masters who used every element such as composition, setting, and symbolic detail to guide their audience through a narrative. My work serves as a reminder of memento mori (latin phrase: remember you will die), thus I created it through the eyes of an artist in that era. I specifically adopted the visual language of the Protestant Reformation, a period where art was used to instruct faith and offer solace amidst mortality. Thus, in my work, the deliberate compositional choices contrast the setting of dense forest with a brighter landscape work together to frame a moment of transition. The dense forest represents fear and uncertainty while the light represents enlightenment and guidance. The angel represents divine guidance, suggesting that peace lies in trusting a larger plan. Overall, my work hopes to offer a gentle reassurance, finding peace in the natural order of things.
