Daphne graduated from the National University of Singapore with a bachelor’s degree with Honoursin Geography. She went on to pursue a Postgraduate Diploma in Education at the National Institute of Education, where she specialised in Geography and History. She was also a research assistant at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, and helped to develop the interdisciplinary global education project under Project Zero.
Daphne taught Geography at St Andrew’s Junior College, where she strove towards motivating students to develop their passions and achieve their full potential. She strongly believes in experiential learning which led her to create simulation games to teach concepts. She also conducted sharing sessions on developing creative and critical thinking skills through simulated games at the Academy Symposium, among other platforms organised by the Academy of Teachers.
Daphne was in charge of Geography and inter-disciplinary competitions. She successfully led her students to win awards in annual competitions organised by the Ministry of Education, Urban Redevelopment Authority, National Environment Agency and Jurong Town Corporation.
Daphne believes in contributing to society and is a proponent of service learning and social enterprise. She spearheaded several projects which gained international recognition through business competitions. She led several teams to win first place in the annual Students for the Advancement of Global Entrepreneurship (SAGE) competition organised by the Singapore Management University. Under her guidance, the teams won awards in Cape Town, New York, and San Francisco. She has also undergone International Baccalaureate’s specialised training in guiding students on their Creativity, Activity, Service projects.
Daphne is dedicated to instilling a love for the Humanities (and humanity) in SOTA students, as she believes it is pivotal in their pursuit of excellence in the arts.
