Michelle Boo believes that we can learn anything we want, as long as we put our heart into it. In Michelle’s classes where she teaches science and biology, you can often find her sharing personal stories with students, encouraging them to live in the moment and take the first step in trying new things.
Michelle graduated from the National University of Singapore, majoring in Life Sciences with specialisation in Biomedical Science and minoring in Forensic Science. During her undergraduate days, she spent a semester at Université Pierre et Marie Curie in Paris, France. Michelle subsequently obtained the Postgraduate Diploma in Education from the National Institute of Education (NIE) and later, a Master of Education. At NIE, she was privileged to contribute a chapter in a book on teaching science in culturally-relevant ways. She began her teaching career at CHIJ St Nicholas Girls’ School (Secondary) before bravely venturing beyond her comfort zone to be one of the pioneer teachers at Guangzhou SCA School in China and helped lay its foundation, particularly in the area of student development. There, she gained exposure to diverse international curricula.
Beyond teaching, Michelle serves in the NUS Forensic Science Alumni Group and is also a member of Youth Corps Singapore where she led and mentored youth community projects. To Michelle, the arts is a lifelong pursuit. She is actively growing herself musically by learning the cello. Aside from music, she also likes experimenting with calligraphy, painting and film photography. Michelle is happy to be in SOTA where she continues her learning journey as an educator while being immersed in a kaleidoscope of the arts.
