Mei Sing began dancing under the tutelage of Goh Soo Khim, Carol Ainsworth and Anthony Then at the Singapore Ballet Academy (SBA). She was awarded the inaugural Shell-National Arts Council Arts Scholarship for overseas tertiary studies in the arts which enabled her to complete her studies at the prestigious Australian Ballet School in 1994.
As a professional dancer, Mei Sing has performed and toured extensively with the Singapore Dance Theatre (SDT). She has taken on roles including Clara in 'The Nutcracker', one of the step-sisters in Cinderella and Pigtails in the Graduation Ball. She has also performed featured roles in works by Jiri Kylian, Val Caniparoli , Goh Choo San, Jean Paul Comelin, Boi Sakti and Thierry Malandains among others. She served as Rehearsal Assistant for several of SDT's Classical productions. In 2003, Mei Sing hosted the popular Arts Central dance series 'Go Tutu Go'.
In the recent years she hosted the Esplanade's Da:ns Festival's dialogue sessions with prima ballerinas Julie Kent, Bridgette Zehr, Sylvie Guillem and famed artistic directors Yuri Fateev (The Maryiinsky Ballet) and Brigitte Lefèvre (The Paris Opera Ballet).
Mei Sing taught the Royal Academy of Dance syllabi at the Singapore Ballet Academy. Many of her dance students have chosen to pursue dance at a professional level, of which several have been awarded the National Arts Council Scholarship to further their dance education. Her students have garnered positions at reputable institutions such as The English National Ballet School, The Royal New Zealand Ballet School, The Ailey School (Alvin Ailey), The Boston Conservatory, The Julliard School, Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance, and The London Contemporary Dance School, to name a few. Former students have also danced professionally with the Singapore Dance Theatre, T.H.E Dance Company (Singapore), Universal Ballet (Korea), Kibbutz Contemporary Dance (Israel), Hubbard Street Dance 2 (United States) amongst others. Several students have even chosen to pursue teaching as their calling.
Locally, Mei Sing has lectured part-time at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) and externally assessed both the Dance Faculties of NAFA and LaSalle College of the Arts. In 2007, Mei Sing was appointed as external assessor for Dance for the National Arts Council. She guest taught for the Interlochen Academy of the Arts in 2013 and the Asian Grand Prix Workshop in 2015. In 2015, Mei Sing served as the Chairperson of the World Dance Alliance’s Workshop committee, in Asia-Pacific Dance Bridge: Connectivity through Dance. Mei Sing has adjudicated both locally and internationally. She was honoured to take on her role as a jury member for the Asian Grand Prix Classical Ballet Competition held in Hong Kong in 2015 and 2016.
