Bee Leng graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Geography and Statistics from the National University of Singapore in 1986 and went on to obtain a Diploma in Teaching from the National Institute of Education (NIE), Singapore, specialising in Geography and History. In 2009, she graduated with a Masters in Education in 2009, specialising in Curriculum and Teaching. Bee Leng is a trained behavioural consultant. She has also undergone International Baccalaureate's specialised training in teaching Geography, Theory of Knowledge, Approaches to Learning, Concepts & Inquiry and in guiding students for their Extended Essays.

Armed with 20 years of teaching experience, Bee Leng headed the Humanities Department at East View Secondary School before joining Tanjong Katong Secondary School (TKSS) in 2000. Her experience in TKSS includes spearheading the Community Outreach Programme, a collaboration with St Hilda’s Church to reach out to the elderly in Tanjong Rhu, sitting on the Teach Less Learn More prototype committee, drafting out the curriculum to implement the Teach Less Learn More initiative, taking charge of establishing the Student Council, drafting and implementing leadership training for student leaders, organising outdoor learning through field trips and integrating subjects across disciplines in these activities. She received the Most Outstanding Staff Contribution Award (Individual) in 2002 in recognition of her contributions.
