Melissa Wu holds a bachelor’s degree (Honours) in English Literature from the National University of Singapore and a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from the National Institute of Education (NIE).
Before joining SOTA, she taught English, Literature, and Speech and Drama in Raffles Girls’ School (Secondary), and took on the role of level coordinator. She spearheaded several school-wide and interdisciplinary events, most notably the Renaissance Faire which was featured in The Straits Times in 2013. She also led faculty events such as English Week and Drama Night, engineering whimsical activities to promote a culture of English proficiency and literary appreciation within the school. As an ex-Toastmaster, she also oversaw the training of emcees and ambassadors for school events. In 2014, she received a full scholarship to further her studies in NIE.
In SOTA, Melissa coached the Kids’ Lit Quiz team and led them to the semifinals of this international competition. She also successfully revitalised Literature Afternoon, a post-exam faculty highlight. In 2024, Melissa was nominated for the national Most Inspiring English Teacher Award.
Melissa believes in using the imaginative potential of Literature to create engaging school experiences and inspire intrinsic motivation in learners. In her free time she enjoys watching stand-up comedy, jamming with fellow musicians, and dreaming about being a lyricist.
