Khiew obtained his Diploma in Fine Art (Painting) at LASALLE College of the Arts in 1996. He completed his Degree of Art in Fine Art (Painting) with Distinction in 1997 and his Master of Art in Fine Art in 2002 with Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology at LASALLE College of the Arts.

Huey Chian has 10 years of teaching experience in the Faculty of Fine Arts at LASALLE College of the Arts. During his time at LASALLE, Huey Chian was involved in the syllabus planning for Undergraduate as well as Post-graduate Studies and conducted classes at practical, conceptual and research level. He also conducted art workshops for Ministry of Education (MOE) teachers and students of Henderson Secondary School.

As an artist, Huey Chian has participated in regional as well as international exchange programmes and exhibitions such as the International Open-Air Art Exhibition in Yokohama, Japan, The 5th Artists Regional Exchange in Perth, Australia and Hong Kong, the Bangladesh Biennale in Bangladesh and group exhibitions in Yogyakarta, Indonesia and at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand.

Huey Chian was the recipient for The Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s Art Award in 2000. He was also one of the 10 recipients for the 1st President’s Young Talents in 2001. He was commissioned by the Land Transport Authority of Singapore to install a permanent work at Nicoll Highway MRT station.
