  • Prepare your portfolio for submission
Note: You may apply for up to TWO (2) art forms and up to ONE IB track only.

  • Register for an account and submit the application online via the TA Portal
  • Application closes on 18 May 2020, 12:00 noon (SGT)
  • It takes about 45 minutes to 1 hour to complete the entire application for ONE (1) art form, provided that the supporting documents and portfolio submission have been prepared in advance
  • Submit your application early, as the TA Portal may experience slower connectivity due to high traffic during the application period
  • Incomplete applications will be disqualified. Appeals for late submissions will not be considered

3 June to 14 June 2020 Shortlisted Applicants Log in to the TA Portal to:
  • upload your most recent 2020 academic results
  • download the 3rd set piece for Music (Violin, Voice, and Piano applicants only)
  • the 3rd set piece is not applicable to:
    • Carnatic/Hindustani voice, Carnatic/Hindustani violin, Traditional Chinese voice from Music-Performance track, and
    • all Music-Composition track applicants
  • download the prescribed monologue (Theatre applicants only)
16 June 2020 6:00 pm (SGT) Shortlisted Applicants
  • Log in to the TA Portal and download your TA schedules
  • Check your TA schedules to find out the allocated days/dates that you are required to attend
23 June 2020 Shortlisted Applicants
  • Attend and complete the English and Mathematics entrance tests at SOTA
  • Make payment for:
    • IBDP Applicants - S$60.00 for the English, Mathematics and Science entrance tests fee
    • IBCP Applicants - S$30.00 for the English and Mathematics entrance tests fee
  • Modes of payment preferred are Nets or Credit Card (Visa or MasterCard)

Applicants are advised not to make travel plans in June. Shortlisted applicants must attend and complete all scheduled TA activities. Incomplete attendance will result in disqualification.

The decision of the selection panel is final. The school reserves the right not to release the results and/or the reasons for non-selection of applicants. The school maintains strict confidentiality on all information provided to us during the TA applications and TA auditions. Admission Exercise

SOTA conducts ONE (1) Admission Exercise a year through the Talent Academy (TA). The TA is conducted in June. Application opens in April and closes in May. Please refer to the Non-DSA How To Apply tab for more information on application process and the timeline to take note of.

Parents and pupils are encouraged to choose schools wisely based on the pupil's aptitudes and strengths, bearing in mind the school's academic and non-academic requirements, and the programmes available to develop the area of talent.
 
All shortlisted Non-DSA applicants must attend and complete all TA activities at SOTA, which comprise:
  • Individual auditions or portfolio presentations
  • Group sessions
  • Panel interviews
  • Online questionnaires
  • Entrance tests for English and Mathematics (Year 5 IBCP track), set at Singapore-Cambridge GCE ‘O’ level, or
  • English, Mathematics and Science (Year 2, 3 and Year 5 IBDP track) set at the local secondary express level or Singapore-Cambridge GCE ‘O’ level
  • An entrance test fee of S$30.00 (Year 5 IBCP), or
  • S$60.00 (Year 2, 3, and Year 5 IBDP) is applicable

Applicants are not required to take the AEIS or SPERS test to apply to SOTA.

Application is not open for admission to Year 2 and Year 3 for TA2020 as there are no available vacancies.
 
There is no TA Registration Fee applicable. There is an entrance test fee of S$30.00 or S$60.00 applicable for shortlisted Non-DSA applicants.

No, there isn't. SOTA only runs ONE (1) Admission Exercise each year.

Eligibility Criteria

Students must at least have studied a year at Foundation level (Year 1 to 3) in SOTA before entering Year 4 (Pre-IB level).
 
Applicants must meet the following:
  • At least 16 years old (born in 2004), and
  • Completing Grade 10 by December 2020; and
  • Have not applied for SOTA’s admission to Year 2 or 3 before

 
No, you may only apply via the DSA-JC exercise.
 
The application is open to Singaporeans, Singapore Permanent-Residents, and Foreigners who meet the eligibility criteria stated in the answers of the previous 3 questions.
 
No, you are not required to have any formal training or certification in order to apply. For Music pupils, it is important that you are able to sight-read and sight-sing.
 
To gain admission into SOTA via Non-DSA, shortlisted applicants must satisfy the following criteria:
  • Receive a Confirmed Offer for the final outcome of their Talent Academy application
  • Submit the Acceptance Form to SOTA by the given deadline

  • The art forms available for admission to Year 2 and 3 are:

    • Literary Arts
    • Music (Performing) or Music (Creating)

    Application is not open for admission to Year 2 and 3 for TA2020 as there are no available vacancies.

    There is no application for admission to Year 4 as pupils must at least have studied a year at Foundation level (Year 1 to 3) in SOTA before entering Year 4 (Pre-IB level).

Application Process - Submission of Online Application

  • Application is done online via the TA Portal. You will need to register for an account before you can log in to complete the application form.
  • You must download the Preparation Notes and Checklist relevant to the art form that you are applying for to find out what you need to prepare for your portfolio submission, as well as the supporting documents required for submission.
  • It takes about 45 minutes to 1 hour to complete the entire application for one art form, provided that the supporting documents and portfolio submission have been prepared in advance.
  • Applicants are advised to submit their applications early, as the TA Portal may experience slower connectivity due to high traffic during the application period.
  • Incomplete applications will be disqualified. Appeals for late submissions will not be considered.

No. All auditions, assessments, and interviews must be done during the TA dates indicated. All TA schedules will be arranged by SOTA and no change of dates is allowed. Please refer to the Non-DSA How To Apply tab for more information on the application process and the timeline to take note of. We regret that due to the nature of the audition activities, no auditions will take place outside of the TA window.
 

Application Process - Shortlisting Phase

Log in to the TA Portal and:
  • check the status of your shortlisting outcome, and
  • download your TA Schedule to find out the TA dates/days that you are allocated to
  • You must attend a total of 3 days of TA (including entrance tests) between 23 June to 26 June 2020
  • As the TA includes group activities, please note that there will not be any make-up auditions
  • Shortlisted candidates must attend and complete all their scheduled activities. Absence during any part of the TA will disqualify the application

To ensure the continued rigour of the selection process, we regret that we are not able to provide any feedback.

The school maintains strict confidentiality about the audition procedures and criteria for the Talent Academy, to ensure and maintain the authenticity of performances and portfolios at future auditions. As such, we regret we are unable to share any feedback.
 
Regrettably, no. The school evaluates the candidate’s artistic talent and potential based on the admission criteria and a rigorous assessment process during the Talent Academy (TA). Candidates are assessed via solo auditions or portfolio presentations depending on the art form, as well as group workshops, exercises and interviews. Admission to the school is highly competitive. As such, we are only able to accept candidates who have performed consistently well across the assessed areas. The school would have carefully reviewed each applicant’s TA assessment and therefore, the decision is final.
