Education and Career Guidance Officer, Faculty of Student Development

Duties and Responsibilities of Career Guidance Officer

The Career Guidance Officer oversees the school’s efforts to provide academic and career guidance to students. Beside having considerable experience in advising and helping students with their application to universities in US, Canada, UK, Europe and Asia, he/she should be also work with teachers and school management to ensure that the curriculum addresses both the developmental and academic needs of students.


The responsibilities and duties are: 

  • Lead and manage the ECG committee in ongoing development and implementation of the school’s ECG programme which includes designing, planning and implementing ECG programmes across the 6 years according to the developmental needs of our students
  • Work across different faculties to implement and oversee programmes to help students develop career readiness and employability skills.
  • Lead and plan staff training and/or information sessions on trends in employment and career to help guide staff in their role as mentors
  • Represent SOTA in managing and building new relationships with university representatives (local and overseas) to develop student pathways beyond SOTA
  • Supervise the work of MOE appointed ECG counsellor attached to SOTA
  • Provide individual and/or group guidance and counselling to students on a range of issues relating to career options available following tertiary education, as well as university courses best suited for career plans.
  • Responsible for reviewing and updating the school’s ECG counselling guidelines, related protocols or policies
  • Provide strategic support in SOTA administration, including participating in new initiatives as assigned by Vice-Principal (Academic & Affective)
 

Job Specification

  • A degree and a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience as a High School University Advisor/University Admissions Counsellor (or equivalent), or in related fields.
  • Strong interest in the arts, and ability to work in a multi-cultural, multi-discipline and collaborative environment.
  • Ability to work independently and takes initiative to propose relevant programmes and/or platforms to further the work of ECG and Higher Education.
  • Ability to lead a team of teachers to design, plan, develop and implement a 6-year curricular programme on career opportunities and high education.
  • Ability to engage with students and to foster enthusiasm for learning. Experience of working with students aged 16 to 18 is an advantage.
  • Ability to use different sets of specialised tools (eg MBTI) to help guide students to plan and shape their education and career paths. Certification to use and/or administer such tools is an advantage.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to engage with student, staff and parents within the school community.
  • Willingness to develop new skills and knowledge through professional development.
  • Experience in developing and implementing an education and career guidance programme is highly desirable.
