Herk Siang graduated from the National University of Singapore with a Bachelor of Arts in English Language and Sociology. He went on to complete his Postgraduate Diploma in Education with the National Institute of Education (NIE), Singapore, and a master’s degree in Social Studies with NIE. He has also undergone International Baccalaureate's specialised training in teaching History and in guiding students for their Extended Essays and Creativity, Activity, Service projects.

As an undergraduate, Herk Siang was an active volunteer and mentor to youths in The Student Mentorship Programme. His interest in working with teenagers continued during his journey as a teacher, where he was the teacher-in-charge for the school’s Student Council.

Herk Siang possesses a keen interest in the arts, especially in theatre. When he was a student, he participated actively in school-based productions and represented the school in poetry-recital competitions. He firmly believes that the Arts and Humanities are closely intertwined and is dedicated in promoting his cause.
