Mysara Aljaru is a lens-based practitioner, writer, researcher and educator. She holds a Bachelor's Degree in Communication from Murdoch University and a Diploma in Communications and Information Design from Republic Polytechnic. Currently, she is pursuing her Masters of Arts from the Malay Studies department at the National University of Singapore (NUS).
Mysara was previously a journalist and documentary producer with Mediacorp. She started out with the digital and features desk at TODAY, where she covered news and also arts and entertainment. She then moved on to Channel NewsAsia, where she has produced both documentaries and live current affairs shows.
Mysara has also worked with various research institutions such as Centre for Research on Islamic and Malay Affairs (RIMA) and The Institute of Policy Studies (IPS) as a research assistant. With interest and experience in the media and academia, she has been interested in working on the intersections of art and academia.
An artist and writer herself, Mysara has showcased and performed at Objectifs, The Substation, and ArtScience Museum. Mysara’s writing has also been published in “Growing Up Perempuan”, “Budi Kritik” and “Karyawan”.
Prior to teaching at SOTA full-time, Mysara was an adjunct teacher with SOTA's film faculty and has conducted workshops and taught script-writing as well.
