Kang Wei Yang graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (Education) Honours degree, conferred jointly by Nanyang Technological University and National Institute of Education (NIE), Singapore.
Prior to joining SOTA, Wei Yang taught History across all five levels at Yusof Ishak
Secondary School and trained students for various national History competitions.
Wei Yang is passionate in pedagogical innovation and interdisciplinary teaching connecting
History with the Arts. He presented research papers on Historical Inquiry Design at the 2016
History Symposium and the 2017 NIE Redesigning Pedagogy International Conference. Wei
Yang also played an integral role in helping his department carry out action research, using
poetry to teach disciplinary literacy in History and creating a board game on the topic of
appeasement to foster the joy of learning.
Wei Yang has been actively involved in sharing his knowledge with the History fraternity, co-
conducting Demonstration Classes on Making Thinking Visible in 2018 and 2019 for fellow
History teachers. He has also facilitated a workshop on using cartoons to teach History at
the Academy of Singapore Teachers (AST).
During his free time, Wei Yang enjoys reading as it allows him to gain new perspectives and
insights. Wei Yang has always possessed a keen interest in the Arts and was part of the
school choir during his secondary school days.
