Setouchi Triennale 2013

SOTA Visual Arts teacher Grace Tan has recently unveiled a site-specific installation entitled "In The Stillness" at the Fukutake House Asia Art Platform for the Summer Session of Setouchi Triennale 2013. Representing Singapore and The Substation as its Associate Artist, Grace was invited to be part of a collaborative exhibition at the Fukuda district of Shodoshima Island. The exhibition showcases artworks from seven participating art organisations from Asia and Australia. This is the first time that Singapore is represented in this visual arts event held across twelve islands in the Seto Inland Sea.

In The Stillness transforms a classroom at Fukuda Elementary School into a 'garden', turning the hard surfaces of chairs and desks into fertile grounds by enveloping them in sculptures made from about 2 million polypropylene loop pins. By coming together, the loop pins become seeds connecting the communities of the Singapore and Shodosima involved in the making of the artwork. This installation is an expression of shared visions, community, and hope for the future.
