Ikan Girl

(Photo: The Arts House Facebook page) SOTA Music faculty member Ms Syafiqah ‘Adha Sallehin presented her longest work thus far, Ikan Girl (Fish Girl), at this year's Singapore International Festival of Music (SIFOM).
Ikan Girl is a 40-minute performance based on a Malay folk tale similar to Snow White. The performance is Syafiqah's first full work with another art form and will feature The Bhumi Collective, a group of Singaporean theatre, dance and music makers. SOTA alumni Zunnur Zhafirah Binte Sazali (Class of 2013 - Dance), Venetia Lim (Class of 2014 - Dance), and Nicholas Tee (Class of 2012 - Theatre) are members of The Bhumi Collective.
In addition to Ikan Girl, Syafiqah's original works were also performed by the festival ensemble in "Portrait of a Composer". Together with the music director of Ikan Girl, Nabillah Jalal, Syafiqah also held a recital "Portrait of a Virtuoso". Syafiqah performed on the accordion, while Nabillah accompanied on the piano.
