The Year 5 Geography students recently had the opportunity to go on a field trip to Kota Tinggi. The objective of the trip was to engage the students outside of the classroom walls by providing them with a platform for authentic learning and hands-on exploration of themes within the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme's Geography syllabus.

The highlight of the trip was the river study that was carried out along a part of Sungei Pelepah near Kota Tinggi Waterfall. Students were taught a range of techniques necessary for fieldwork in a river environment. These techniques were applied to analyse river processes and landforms. The experience helped them to connect what they have learnt to the real world environment and as such, allowed them to realise the relevance of geography.

The trip also included a short trek through the Gunung Panti Recreational Forest, a lush tropical rainforest in Johor. It was a refreshing exposure for the students to better appreciate and deepen their understanding of the complex ecosystem of the rainforest.

The trip was indeed an enjoyable eye-opening experience for the students that further ignited their passion for the subject.
