Literary Session with Norman Jorgensen

The Faculty of Literary Arts welcomed Mr Norman Jorgensen, a celebrated West Australian young adult and picture book writer, as part of the faculty’s enrichment programme on 14 July 2016. Mr Jorgensen has published more than fourteen books and was at SOTA to promote a new Singapore-Australian anthology for young adults titled Near and Dear.

For the workshop, Mr Jorgensen shared the extensive history of West Australia and how he drew inspiration from Rottnest Island for his young adult novel, Jack’s Island. He gave the students a sneak preview of The Smuggler’s Curse, which was partially set in Singapore, and also shared a list of Rules For Writing with our Literary Arts students to improve their fiction writing craft.

At the end of the workshop, each Literary Arts student was given a complimentary copy of Near and Dear.
