Year 2 students presented an Integrated Arts (IA) showcase in August, to share what they had learnt from their IA lessons. IA, a programme unique to SOTA, is offered in the foundation years through which students are exposed to the range of arts disciplines represented, and are guided to explore the connections among the different arts disciplines. The IA programme in Year 2 gives students the opportunity to learn from and participate in projects led by two or more teachers of different arts disciplines. 

There were a total of eight interdisciplinary projects, which the students took part in:

  • Living Sculpture: An exploration of shape, structure, and silhouette. Led by Mr Thomas Cheong (Visual Arts) and Mr Fared Jainal (Theatre)
  • Triartography: Exploring the art of three forms, Calligraphy, Movement and Photography, students present their representation of a selected Chinese character through light and movement captured on digital photography. Led by Mr Patrick Ting (Mother Tongue Languages), Mr Ni Yongkai (Mother Tongue Languages), and Ms Zen Teh (Visual Arts)
  • Math, Movement, Magic: Every math problem has only 1 correct solution. What happens if we use movement and choreography to solve a math problem? Led by Mr Chan Wei Chee (Math) and Ms Celine Tan (Dance)
  • Music to the Write: Two original musicals, The Little Mermaid (SG Edition) and The Good Queen, featuring original score and lyrics written and performed by our students. Led by Mr Ivan Ang (Literary Arts) and Mr Ramu Thiruyanam (Music)
  • Feeling The Materials: Sound and movement with Lycra, Aluminium & Paper. Led by Mr Sascia Pellegrini (Music), Ms Chia Poh Hian (Dance) and Ms Phua Sze Ping (Dance)
  • 6sense: Exploring surfaces as a dynamic canvas for projecting drama using pre-edited cinematic sequences. A site-specific installation led by Ms Serena Ho (Theatre) and Mr David Cheng (Film)
  • Soundpainting: Exploring the art of live composition through Music, Theatre, Visual and Literary Arts. Led by Ms Elvira Holmberg (Theatre), Mr Timothy Thorne (Music), and Mr Isaiah Koh (Music)
  • Senses: Perception/Deception: The use of perception/deception approach in verbal, visual and/or sound elements to manipulate its meaning creatively in class. Led by Mr Colin Cheong (Theory of Knowledge) and Mr Sazali Othman (Theatre)
