Partnership with National Gallery Singapore

SOTA is pleased to partner with National Gallery Singapore in the area of visual arts and beyond. Besides providing internship for our Visual Arts students to gain authentic learning experience in a national visual arts Institution, SOTA and the Gallery have also been working together to explore various ways to infuse visual arts into other arts disciplines.

For the Gallery's first international collaboration, 'Reframing Modernism: Painting from Southeast Asia, Europe and Beyond’ which opened on 31 March 2016, seven SOTA music students wrote new compositions in response to selected artworks from the exhibition. These were performed by the students and the audience had the opportunity to listen to them via the music stations at the exhibition. Feedback from the Gallery and the public were overwhelmingly positive and the students gained valuable insights into the interconnectedness of visual arts and music.

The Gallery has also provided performance opportunities for SOTA students to present their art to the masses. Our Music students performed music from the Baroque period at the Padang Atrium in the Gallery on 2 April 2016, captivating the audience with their various instruments from violins and harps to the guzheng.
