SOTA: School of the Arts Singapore
The Temporary Laboratory Officer / Assistant will assist the laboratory technician in the operation, care, maintenance and improvement of the science laboratories in the school.

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:


ROUTINE DUTIES
  1. Open and lock doors and windows of laboratories;
  2. Sweep the floor in the laboratories, store room and adjacent corridors;
  3. Empty waste bins;
  4. Clean whiteboards and replenish markers;
  5. Clean basins and sinks;
  6. Dust and clean items such as benches, stools, shelves, apparatus and bottles;
  7. Refill reagent bottles;
  8. Wash bench cloths;
  9. Prepare the correct apparatus and reagents for use;
  10. Assist the laboratory technician to account for all apparatus and reagents used;
  11. Assist teachers to provide additional apparatus, record student particulars who damage apparatus, replace and dispose damaged apparatus properly;
  12. Check all gas valves to ensure that they are closed after use;
  13. Identify laboratory safety issues and report to the lab technician;
  14. Wash glassware with detergent and other apparatus as directed;
  15. Clean, dry and store all apparatus in the designated storage area.
  16. Perform minor repairs on apparatus;
  17. Make gadgets for experiments and build up resources for the demonstration of science concepts;
  18. Maintain the gadgets in working condition.

WEEKLY DUTIES
  1. Empty and clean cupboards and shelves;
  2. Oil apparatus and other items which rusts easily;
  3. Grease the glass stoppers;
  4. Polish glass cupboard doors and brass equipment;
  5. Inspect and thoroughly clean the drainage system in the laboratories.

TERMLY DUTIES
  1. Treat bench tops and paint fittings and equipment;
  2. Ensure all apparatus and reagent bottle labels are neat and visible.

OTHER DUTIES
  1. Assist in the annual stock taking of inventory;
  2. Assist in the preparations for school and faculty events and activities.

JOB SPECIFICATION
  • Minimum of National Trade Certificate Grade III in the technical discipline or equivalent
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in similar capacity
  • The ability to perform daily routine activities and a team player
